How It Happened
Leading the way was
Cory Morton, who etched his name into the Oswego record books in the men's triple jump. Morton posted a mark of 14.41 meters to finish second overall, setting a new program record in the process and continuing his standout outdoor campaign. Morton broke a 51-year-old outdoor record!
On the track, the Lakers saw success in the sprint relays as the men's 4x100-meter team of Morton,
Darnell Johnson,
Soren Wolford, and
Malik Davis clocked a time of 43.53.
Individually, Wolford paced the men's sprinters with a time of 11.39 in the 100-meter dash and later added a 22.51 finish in the 200 meters. Davis followed in the 100 with a time of 11.81, while Tom Mahunik turned in a 52.95 performance in the 400 meters.
The women's sprint group delivered a tightly contested showing in the 100 meters, with
Daiya Kowalski leading the Lakers in 13.21, just ahead of teammate
Sabrina Schmitt at 13.22. Schmitt later posted a 27.05 in the 200 meters, with Kowalski close behind in 27.42.
In distance action,
Elena Gaffney represented Oswego in the women's 3000 meters, finishing in 10:37.97.
What's Next
The Lakers will head to SUNY Cortland next weekend starting on Friday for the Cortland Classic.
