How it Happened: Game 1
Oswego handed Cortland their first conference loss of the season with some dominant hitting, as many different hitters came up big for the Lakers.Â
Â
Oswego got off to a fast start, scoring 7 runs in the first two innings of play.
Brogan Olson hit an RBI single to get the scoring underway, and a throwing error plated three runs to give Oswego a 4-0 lead. They would add to that lead with two singles bringing in a total of three runs, from
Brogan Olson and
Dylan Rosenberg.Â
Â
The Red Dragons would bring it within three runs in the 4th inning, but two runs in the 4th would restore a 5 run lead.
Daniel Winchester scored a run on a sacrifice bunt, and once again, Olson came up big with an RBI double.
Brendan Mair would homer in the 7th to put the finishing touches on a high scoring game for Oswego.
Â
Aiden Kerr and
Matthew Drillings came up big out of the bullpen, as they combined for 6 full innings, surrendering just two earned runs in the process, with Kerr being awarded the win.
Â
How it Happened: Game 2
Game two was a similar start to what would end up being a different ending to the story, as Cortland was able to take Game 2 of the doubleheader, 12-6.Â
Â
Emil Sander started the game off in the 3rd inning with a two run home run, his first of the season, and fifth of his career, to get Oswego on the board.Â
Â
In the 5th inning,
Harry Uvena hit a clutch two RBI double to regain the lead for the Lakers, and was added onto by
Daniel Winchester singling in the next at bat, giving the Lakers a two run lead.Â
Â
Cortland was able to rally for 7 consecutive runs without answer, when
Daniel Winchester hit a sacrifice fly ball to score a run, bringing the game within four runs, which the Lakers were unable to come back from.
Â
What's NextÂ
The Lakers will regroup tomorrow, Wednesday, April 15th, with a single non-conference game against the University of Rochester. That game is set to get underway at 4:00 P.M. Looking ahead, Oswego has a road weekend series scheduled against the Blue Devils of Fredonia.Â
