How it Happened
Behind a standout performance from Alexis Hill and a composed finish under pressure, the Lakers edged Cortland, 12-11, on Wednesday afternoon at Grady Field, clinching the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Oswego completed a perfect run through conference play, holding off a furious late rally from Cortland to secure the program's second straight regular-season crown.

Hill led the way with five goals, controlling the pace offensively while also making an impact all over the field with six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Cassidy Croce added a hat trick, and Aubri Greene scored twice—including two key fourth-quarter tallies—to help the Lakers maintain their edge.

The Lakers set the tone early, jumping out to a 4-2 lead after the opening quarter. Hill accounted for three of those goals, including a man-up strike, while Abigail Dicks added another to give Oswego early momentum.

Cortland battled back in the second quarter, trimming the deficit to 5-4, but Hill answered again to send the Lakers into halftime with a 6-4 advantage.

Oswego created separation in the third. Croce scored twice in a span of just over a minute, and Addison Costello added another late in the quarter to push the lead to 9-5. Despite a late Cortland goal, the Lakers carried a 9-6 cushion into the final frame.

The fourth quarter, however, was anything but comfortable.

Greene opened the scoring with back-to-back goals—one on a free-position opportunity—to extend the lead to 11-6, but Cortland stormed back with five of the next six goals, cutting the deficit to a single goal in the final minute.
With the pressure mounting, Hill delivered the biggest play of the day, scoring with just over a minute remaining to give Oswego a crucial three-goal cushion. Cortland added two late goals, but the Lakers controlled possession in the closing seconds to seal the win.

In net, Alana Iacovissi made eight saves to anchor the defense, while Oswego matched Cortland with 22 ground balls in a physical, evenly played contest.

The victory not only secures home-field advantage throughout the SUNYAC playoffs, but reinforces Oswego's position atop the conference heading into the postseason—right where they've been all season.
