Late-Inning Surge Lifts Oswego Past Plattsburgh in Extras

Oneonta, N.Y. - The Oswego Lakers delivered when it mattered most Friday afternoon, erupting for three runs in the 10th inning to secure a 5–2 extra-inning victory over the Plattsburgh Cardinals.

The Basics
Oswego: 5 (10-11, 6-1 SUNYAC)
Plattsburgh: 6 (9-9, 0-7 SUNYAC)
Location: Oneonta, NY

How it Happened
Locked in a tight, low-scoring battle for much of the day, Oswego showcased resilience after surrendering a 2-1 lead in the fourth. The Lakers struck first in the third inning when Daniel Winchester drove in Emil Sander with a single, but Plattsburgh answered in the bottom half of the fourth with a two-run double to take a 2-1 edge.

From there, pitching took center stage. Starter Owen Hoyt turned in a strong outing, tossing seven innings while allowing just two runs and striking out seven to keep Oswego within striking distance. The Lakers finally broke through in the eighth, as Winchester came through again—this time with a clutch RBI triple to knot the game at 2-2.

With momentum building, Oswego delivered the decisive blow in the 10th. Sander drew a leadoff walk to spark the rally, and the Lakers loaded the bases before Andrew Dempsey lifted a sacrifice fly to give Oswego the lead. Moments later, Ben Rollison ripped a two-run double to left, providing critical insurance and putting the game out of reach.

Matthew Drillings was dominant out of the bullpen, tossing three shutout innings and allowing just one hit while earning the win.

Winchester led the offensive effort, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a triple, while Rollison's late-game double proved to be the dagger. Despite managing just five hits on the day, Oswego made them count—capitalizing on walks and timely execution to outlast the Cardinals.

What's Next
The Lakers will face off with the Red Dragons once again tomorrow in a double header that starts at 12:00 PM.
