How it Happened
The Lakers started out the 1st quarter strong with a huge draw control from
Abigail Dicks out the gate. This was followed by the first score of the game from
Alexis Hill to make it 1-0 Lakers. Hill grabbed her second goal of the game on a man-up opportunity to make it a 2-0 game. The Red Dragons soon responded and got on the board with a free position shot goal to make it a 2-1 ball game. The Red Dragons proceeded to go on a two-goal run to make it 2-3 to end the 1st quarter.
The 2nd quarter opened with a goal from
Aubri Greene off an assist from Hill to tie the game 3-3. It was a very tightly contested game throughout the first half. The Red Dragons soon responded to the Laker's score with a three-goal run to swing this matchup in favor of Cortland 6-3 to end the half.
The game proceeded with a competitive start to the 2nd half of action. The Lakers and Red Dragons went back and forth with both great offensive and defensive possessions. Big saves from the Red Dragons goaltender and none other than
Alana Iacovissi to keep both teams at a stalemate. This was until the Red Dragons went on a two-goal run to end the 3rd quarter 3-8 Cortland.
Once again Greene kept the Lakers alive to start the 4th quarter with a goal to make it 4-8 Red Dragons. This was followed by a continuing physical battle between both teams. Cards and fouls were given to both teams as a result. However, with these opportunities the Red Dragons continued to gain the upper hand which resulted in another goal and to make the final score 4-9 Cortland.
