Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener on the Road at Clarkson

Potsdam, NY - The Lakers, in their season opener, walked into Clarkson and started off the game in control. The Golden Knights came out firing in the second half giving us our final score of 2-0.

 

BASICS 

Oswego 0 (0-1, 0-0 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED 

The Lakers controlled the first portion of the game earning a corner kick and drawing multiple penalties. Oswego put Clarkson on their heels early. Oswego was again in the corner in the 9th minute but, the Golden Knights stayed disciplined in their defensive shape. The first shot of the contest came in the 16th minute from Clarkson's Clark Ruthfield. Although it missed right, the first real chance had come at Hantz Field. The Golden Knights continued to keep their food on the pedal as in the next 15 minutes, they fired off five more shots. Oswego created their first chance in the 41st minute as Dylan Manriquez went low center. Manriquez shot a rocket but a good save by Clarkson goalkeeper Burgos kept this game squared at zero going into the halftime. 

Clarkson came out quickly with a shot on goal by Brodie Smith in the 47th minute but Kyle Rose picked up his second save of the day. In the 54th minute, Brodie Smith from center field would try again and this time, he would strike the back of the net. Clarkson came out hot and now led, 1-0. In the 60th minute, the Lakers created another chance with a shot from TJ Tanner. Burgos stood tall and Clarkson's lead held. Oswego had chances in the closing moments but Clarkson was in control through and through. In the 89th minute, Clarkson put the game away with a closing goal off the foot of Rolland. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego comes to Laker Turf for their home opener on Friday. They go head to head with SUNY Poly who went 4-12-2 last season. The opening touch is set for 4:00pm.
