Oswego State Athletics

Oswego, N.Y. - The Lakers, in their first home appearance of the season, were able to maintain control on both sides of the pitch. A mix of fluid, relentless offense in the first half and a focus on defense in the second half allowed Oswego to shut out the SUNY Poly Wildcats in a 3-0 win.

How it Happened
The Lakers opened their first home contest against the Wildcats by battling for nearly 15 minutes for solid control of the ball. 
 
Oswego wasn't able to get on the scoreboard despite taking multiple shots on goal until a yellow card on SUNY Poly gave the Lakers a chance to score with a penalty kick. Ian Husselbeck was able to convert on the penalty, putting Oswego up 1-0 in the first half with his first goal of the season.
 
The Lakers capitalized on the offensive momentum by managing to rattle off 5 more shots on goal within 7 minutes. Ian Husselbeck was able to put another point on the scoreboard by crossing the Poly goalkeeper with swift footwork, putting the Lakers up 2-0 on the evening. The Wildcats upped the intensity in the last minutes of the half with a shot on goal which was excellently defended by Laker goalie Kyle Rose.
 
With a comfortable 2-0 lead to start the second half, Oswego was able to focus on defensive play. In response, the Wildcats opened the half with high physicality and intensity in an effort to secure their first goal of the night. The Lakers responded with physicality of their own, making sure nothing came easy to Poly. 
 
Oswego was able to turn their defense into offense late in the second half with another goal by striker Dylan Manriquez, sealing the game 3-0 with a Laker win.
