How it Happened
The first set of today's game was neck and neck throughout, with the Lakers and the Wildcats never letting the game get too out of reach. The largest lead of the first set was only by 5 points, and the consistency from both teams allowed them to keep the score even. Throughout the set,
Mya Bush was able to set up her teammates for a number of kills and recorded 3 herself. A service ace by libero
Juliana Santafemia gave the Lakers a 1-point lead late in the set, going up 20-19. Another 3 quick points forced Poly to take a timeout. Despite the break, the Wildcats couldn't rally their defense, and a service ace by
Piper Adams gave Oswego set #1, winning 25-21.
Â
The beginning of the second set continued the evening's pattern of being extremely tight. Play opened up with teams trading points back and forth, tying first at 6-6 and then at 11-11. At this point in the match, both teams were equal in kills, assists, and total attacks. A kill by
Chloe Arnaiz and two back-to-back attack errors from the Wildcats gave the Lakers a lead at 19-14. A service ace from
Juliana Santafemia and another attack error from Poly enabled the Lakers to pull away at 24-19. One last kill from
Priscilla McReynolds secured the Lakers' second set win at 25-20.
Â
For the third set of the night, the opening appeared to be more of the same, with both teams consistently trading points back and forth until the Lakers were able to pull ahead early, establishing a 12-6 lead. Using their lead cushion, Oswego played with more emphasis on offense and pushed that lead to an even larger 21-14 lead. Points 20 through 24 all consisted of kills, with
Alaina Dudzinski and
Leanna Rupert each chipping in 1 and
Grace Gdovin contributing with 3 total, 2 of those being back-to-back to seal the same and give the Lakers the match win at 25-16.
