Lakers Fall in 5 Sets to Geneseo in Season Opener

Geneva, N.Y. – The Lakers first game of the season against Geneseo was a nail biter! Starting for the Lakers Mya Bush, Priscilla McReynolds, Gigi Basile, Grace Gdovin, Alania Dudzinski, Lilaina Nelson and Julie Santafemia.

How it Happened
 
The Lakers had a great start, playing scrappy and staying positive while. Mya Bush led the Lakers with 20 digs on the night, some of those coming in clutch times in the first set and the rest of the game. Gdovin and Santafemia put in the work in defense as well, with 14 and 13 digs on the night.
 
The Lakers won the first set 25-17. The last two points were aces made by Priscilla McReynolds. Grace Gdovin and Julie Santafemia also contributed with 1 and 1. In the second set, the Lakers tried to get up two zip, Alania Dudzinski leading the team with 5 blocks. Along with Priscilla McReynolds with 3 and Lilaina Nelson with 3 as well. After long rallies and endless pursuits, SUNY Geneseo takes the set 25-22.
 
The Lakers came back in the third, winning the set 25-23. Basile took the last swing to win the set. She had 9 kills on the night. As the fourth came around, it was a real battle. With the Lakers working with the tough shots from Geneseo, the Knights took the set 25-10.
 
Now down to the final points of the fifth set, throughout the fourth and fifth sets we saw appearances from freshman Chloe Arnaiz and Sabine Smithwick, senior CJ Eidem, and sophomore Samantha Madigan. The Lakers offensively were mixing up shots the whole game, with McReynolds leading the night with 15 kills, along with Basile and Gdovin. Gdovin had 6 kills on the night. Mya Bush led the Lakers with 35 assists, with Santafemia and Nelson also putting up the numbers in assists with 2 and 2. The Lakers worked hard and pushed, but the Knights took the fifth 15-9. Winning the match 3-2.
 
What's Next
The Lakers will face #15 Wesleyan University and William Smith in a doubleheader tomorrow at 11:00 AM  and 1:30 PM in Geneva, NY.
