The primary purpose of this commitment is to support student-athletes in their progress toward intellectual development and the goal of graduation. Oswego State offers a variety of services that help students to achieve academic success. These programs and services include:
Academic Progress Meetings: All special admission student-athletes, student-athletes who are currently on academic warning, on academic probation, and those student-athletes who have been reinstated from academic disqualification, are required to participate in the Academic Progress Meeting Program. The program consists of weekly meetings with the academic coordinator or support assistants. The student will discuss his/her academic performance in enrolled coursework, time management, study skills and any other issues that impact academic success.
Supervised Study Table Program: All special admission student-athletes, student-athletes on academic warning, academic probation, and those reinstated from disqualification are required to attend the weekly study hall program.
Academic Advisement: All students are assigned an academic advisor within the academic department of their major. The academic coordinator for student-athletes (213 Laker Hall) will advise new student-athletes during the Summer Orientation programs. The academic coordinator will advise undeclared student-athletes during their first year, and will continue to do so until they have chosen a major. Undeclared students may also seek advisement from a staff member within the Student Advisement Center (145 Campus Center).
In addition, the athletics department partners with other campus offices and programs to support learning opportunities at Oswego. For more information, contact Sue Witmer, Academic Coordinator.
