Our mission in Student-Athlete Affairs is to develop leaders for life. In an effort to assist student-athletes and athletics professionals, the NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs unit provides support in the areas of athletic excellence, academic excellence, personal development, career development, and service through the distribution of accessible resources, strategic partnerships, and customized programming. Prior to 2010, NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs was known as CHAMPS/Life Skills.
Engagement: By promoting engagement on campus, in the community and beyond, Student-Athlete Affairs wants to enhance the opportunity for the Athletics Department, campus, and SUNYAC office to support the experience of student-athletes.
Citizenship: Student-Athlete Affairs believes it is important to develop leaders with a sense of citizenship that will help them to become responsible leaders in the community.
Enrichment: Student-Athlete Affairs sees itself as a resource, facilitating programming and sharing information that student-athletes will find useful, both on and off the field. Student-Athlete Affairs wants to enrich the student-athlete experience.
Integrity: Student-Athlete Affairs values integrity and is committed to providing tools and platforms for campus and conference athletics professionals to serve as role models and teach student-athletes to align their actions with their values.
Leadership: Student-athletes are great campus leaders. Student-Athlete Affairs' work establishes an overall vision for athletics as an integral part of campus life that supports the overall mission of the institution.
NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs does not work alone. To make sure it meets the needs of student-athletes, it works with the NCAA National Student-Athlete Advisory Committees. To ensure that it is well informed about the challenges student-athletes face, a select group of athletics professionals from all three divisions act on the advisory committee. These group influence the decisions and offerings provided.
