Adam Stockwell - 2010-11

Adam Stockwell

  • Title
    Head Men's Basketball Coach
Adam Stockwell begins his third season at the helm of the Oswego State men's basketball program after guiding the Lakers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance before finishing with a 24-5 overall record and a program-best SUNYAC record of 17-1 to earn the No. 1-seed in the SUNYAC Post-Season Tournament.  Oswego State won its NCAA First Round game before falling to "Sweet 16" participant Rhode Island College.

His efforts resulted in numerous post-season accolades, including National Association of Basketball Coaches East District Coach of the Year, SUNYAC Coach of the Year, and the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Division III Men's Coach of the Year.

Stockwell became the 15th coach in the 88-year history of the Laker program in 2009.

A native of Ellisburg, NY, Stockwell guided the Clarkson Golden Knights into postseason play from 2006-2009, including the program's first-ever NCAA Division III Championship appearance during the 2007-08 season after capturing the Liberty League tournament title. That same season, he went on to garner conference Coach of the Year accolades.

In 2008-09, the Golden Knights finished with a 15-11 record and reached the Liberty League semifinals for the second straight season as the number four seed, losing to NCAA tournament "Sweet 16" participant St. Lawrence University.

Prior to Clarkson, Stockwell served as an assistant coach at Canisius College from 1999-2004, where his duties included recruiting, scouting, and on-floor coaching. He helped lead the Golden Griffins to a 20-11 record during the 20-01 season, only the sixth 20-win season in the school's 100-year history. He helped develop six All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) players during his five seasons and worked with four players who moved on to play professionally.

He also coached at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse for one season (1997-98) before beginning his collegiate coaching career at Penn State-Behrend in Erie, PA (1998-99), where he helped the Lions to a 21-7 record and the ECAC South Championship.

Stockwell played collegiately at LeMoyne College, where he was a three-year starter for the Dolphins (1993-96). He averaged 21.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in his senior season, earning honorable mention All-America honors after leading the team to a 24-6 record and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship tournament. He ranks ninth in career scoring (1,458), sixth in steals (144), second in 3-point field goal percentage (.420) and fourth in 3-point field goals made (170) at LeMoyne.

He graduated in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in Economics and was named to the GTE/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District I All-Academic Team. Stockwell was inducted into the LeMoyne College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007.

Stockwell grew up just 35 minutes north of SUNY Oswego, graduating from Belleville-Henderson High School in 1992 as a 2,000-point scorer. Along with father James, the Stockwells are the only father-son combination in New York State high school basketball history to both score over 2,000 points.

Stockwell resides in Liverpool with his wife, Emily, and their children, Katherine and Jameson.
