OSWEGO, N.Y. - Kyle O’Connor of the men’s lacrosse team has been named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending on March 5. The sophomore’s strong all-around performance against Hartwick College lifted Oswego to a win in its first contest of the 2018 season.
Assisting early on in the contest, the Dexter, N.Y. native’s pass to teammate Kyle Bacon wound up in the back of the net less than 10 seconds from the opening whistle. Within five minutes, O’Connor struck again following a Robbie Connors goal, scoring himself off an assist from Teddy Phillips to make it 3-1.
Tying for the team lead in ground balls with Phillips (6), O’Connor’s hustle throughout the game helped Oswego claim its first win in its first game, a 13-8 victory. On top of collecting extra possessions, O’Connor excelled in the faceoff circle as well for the Lakers, winning 16 out of 25 attempts, an impressive 64%.
Oswego men’s lacrosse and O’Connor play next at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, away at Ithaca College in their second regular-season matchup of the year.
