OSWEGO, N.Y. – Rebecca Vilchez – of the softball team – has been named Oswego State Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 21.

The junior was a force at the plate and on the mound, as the Lakers went 6-0 on the week. She recorded seven hits, scored four runs and drove in five. Four of those RBI came against Potsdam, where she also hit her second home run of the season.

The Franklin Square, N.Y. native allowed only one run in her five appearances on the mound. She won all three games she started, including an eight inning shutout against Buffalo State on Saturday. She also closed out two games, recording a save in both contests. With her efforts, she was able to lower her season’s ERA by more than a run.

Vilchez and the Lakers return to action today at 1 p.m., hosting a doubleheader with Fredonia.
