The Oswego State men's soccer team won its second straight game as the Lakers shutout visiting SUNYIT 4-0 on Friday, Oct. 8, at the South Athletic Complex.
The win was also Oswego State's first SUNY Athletic Conference victory for the Lakers as they are now 1-3-1 in conference play and 5-7-1 overall. The Wildcats dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-7 in the SUNYAC.
Oswego State got off to a fast start as Luis Fernandez (DeWitt) scored off of a direct kick from the top of the penalty area 1:20 into the game. Fernandez made it 2-0 a little over 11 minutes later cashing in on a penalty kick. The goals were Fernandez's first two of the season.
Chris Krueger (Clinton) added to the Laker attack making it 3-0 just 17:50 into the contest after taking a sharp feed from Chet Lunt (East Moriches).
Danny Hammer (Syracuse) netted the lone goal of the second half one timing a direct kick by Fernandez with less than six minutes remaining.
Keeper John Spuhler (Fulton) made five saves to pick up his third shutout of the season.
In goal for the Wildcats, Emmanual Fordjour (Staten Island) made three saves and Marian Popescu (Milford, PA) had one.
The Lakers return to conference play tomorrow hosting New Paltz at 1p.m.
