The Oswego State men's soccer team saw its modest two-game winning streak come to and end as New Paltz broke open a close game in the second half securing a 5-1 victory over the Lakers on Saturday, Oct. 9, at the South Athletic Complex.
The loss knocked Oswego State to 5-8-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the SUNY Athletic Conference, while the Hawks climbed to 5-3 in the conference and 5-8 overall.
New Paltz got on the board early scoring a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. Chris Daly (Washingtonville) netted the first one 4:15 into the contest, while Greg Foss (Queensbury) added the second just under 10 minutes later.
Oswego State climbed back into the game late in the half as Luis Fernandez (DeWitt) sent Chris Krueger (Clinton) in on a breakaway. Krueger took advantage of the chance scoring his second goal in as many games.
The Hawks took control in the second half scoring three times as Foss, Daniel Libardi (Canaan) and Richard Randall (Spencerport) each scored.
Oswego State goalie John Spuhler (Fulton) made four saves, while New Paltz's Jake Lammers (Highland) finished with three.
The Lakers return to conference play next weekend playing at Potsdam on Friday, October 15th and at Plattsburgh on Saturday, Oct. 16.
