The Oswego State softball team earned a split with visiting St. John Fisher on Monday, April 11, at the South Athletic Complex as the Lakers won the second game of the doubleheader.
After the Cardinals scored a 9-0 win in the opening game, Oswego State came right back to post an 8-2 victory. The Lakers are now 8-6 on the season with St. John Fisher moving to 12-10.
Right from the start of the second game, Oswego State jumped on top as Willow Eyres (Selkirk) belted a two-run homer in the bottom half of the first inning. The Lakers then added a pair of unearned runs later in the inning to forge a 4-0 lead.
That was all pitcher Susie Burt (Cuba) needed as the junior allowed only one earned run on four hits as she tossed a complete game.
Eyres finished the game going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, while Carolyn Agle (Eden) hit a pair of doubles.
St. John Fisher pitcher Amanda Herberger (Kenmore) dominated in the first game allowing only three hits to record the shutout. The junior also struck out 13 Oswego State batters.
The Cardinals scored once in the first inning before plating two more runs in the fifth and then broke the game open with six in the top of the seventh.
The Lakers will return to the field this weekend with a pair of SUNY Athletic Conference doubleheaders. Oswego State will host Fredonia on Friday, April 15, at 3 p.m. and take on Buffalo State on Saturday, April 16, at 1 p.m.
