The Oswego State softball team saw its home opener spoiled as visiting Cortland swept a doubleheader from the Lakers on Friday, April 8, at the South Athletic Complex.
The Red Dragons took the opener 10-3 and the scored a 1-0 victory in the second game.
The pair of wins puts Cortland at 11-6 overall and 2-0 in the SUNY Athletic Conference, while Oswego slipped to 2-2 in the conference and 5-5 overall.
In the opening game, Kim Wood (Equinunk, PA) powered the Red Dragons going 3-for-3 with a home run and a pair of doubles. The junior also drove in three of runs. Shara Evanter (Commack) had three hits for Cortland and drove in two runs.
Stephanie Adamshick (Milton) tossed a two-hitter for the Red Dragons to earn the win.
Taking the loss for the Lakers was Heather McBride (Mechanicville) as she allowed 10 runs, but only six of them were earned. She helped her own cause at the plate as well belting a double that brought in a run as the hosts closed the gap to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth.
Cortland quickly responded with two runs in the top of the sixth and four more in the seventh to preserve the win.
In the second game, Cortland's Erika Cremona (Mastic Beach) out dueled Oswego State's Susie Burt (Cuba) as Cremona allowed just three hits while throwing a complete game with 11 strikeouts.
Burt suffered the loss as the junior allowed one run on seven hits with six strikeouts.
The only run in the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning as Jamie Neuner (Brewster) led off the inning with a home run to center field for the Red Dragons.
The Lakers will return to the field on Saturday, April 9, hosting Hartwick in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
