The Oswego State men's soccer team defeated Brockport 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon in a SUNYAC Play-In game at East Rochester High School. Senior
Mike Davis scored early in the second half for the Lakers and the lead held up the rest of the way.
An evenly-played first half produced no goals in the game, but Oswego State held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.
A foul by Brockport approximately 35 yards from goal led to a Laker free kick in the 48th minute. Senior Pat Hurley served a ball to the right side for Greg Blette. Blette controlled the ball and swung in a cross to the edge of the six-yard box, where Mike Davis trapped it and fell to the ground. His shot, while laying on his side, found the net behind Brockport keeper Chris Bedford for the only goal of the game.
The Golden Eagles had a shot from Jon Lefort hit the post later in the half, and two direct-piece shots missed the net.
Oswego State has won five straight games and is 11-7-1 on the season. Brockport ended its season with an 8-7-3 record.
The Lakers will face tournament No. 1 seed Geneseo on Friday at 11 a.m. in a SUNYAC semifinal game. The semifinals and championship game will be played at the National Soccer Hall of Fame fields in Oneonta.
