The Oswego State men's hockey team fell behind by three goals but left Plattsburgh's Stafford Ice Arena with a 5-5 tie against the Cardinals on Saturday night.
Plattsburgh scored twice in the first period and added a power-play goal 2:17 into the second period to build a 3-0 lead.
Power-play goals by Ryan Ellis and Rich Zalewski in a span of 56 seconds got the Lakers back into the game. Two more power-play goals late in the second period, one from each team, had the Cardinals in front 4-3 after two periods.
Ellis scored his second of the game and eighth of the season 6:06 into the third period to tie the score 4-4, and C.J. Thompson scored with 3:21 left to play on assists from Rich Zalewski and Ryan Koresky to give the Lakers their first lead of the contest.
Two penalties to the Lakers in the game's closing minutes gave Plattsburgh a 5-on-3 manpower advantage for 1:39 but they couldn't take advantage. The penalties expired, and Plattsburgh's goale was pulled in favor of an extra attacker allowing the Cardinals Pier-Luc Belanger to score with five seconds left.
Neither team scored in overtime, but Oswego State had three shots on net while Plattsburgh didn't record any.
Oswego State goalie Ryan Scott made 15 saves and Plattsburgh's Chris Molinaro had 35 saves, as the Lakers outshot the Cardinals 40-20.
The Lakers are now 9-0-3 on the year and 6-0-1 in the SUNYAC. The 12-game unbeaten streak to start the year matches a school record, set three years ago.
