How it Happened
The Lakers broke the ice just four minutes into this one, courtesy of Niklas Miller, who crashed the net and picked up the scraps on a shot off the pads of the Nazareth goalie to make it 1-0 Lakers.
Following the opening goal, Oswego dominated the pace of play, outskating and outshooting Nazareth 9-to-1, causing the Golden Flyers to take a defensive zone penalty, setting up a Laker man advantage, which saw third-year Laker Collin Vassallo on the receiving end of a tic tac toe pass just above the left hash mark, promptly one timing it past the Nazareth netminder to make it a two-goal Oswego advantage.
Just a little over a minute later, Nazareth responded in kind to the Oswego power play tally. The Golden Flyers capitalized on a turnover at the Oswego blue line, getting the puck into the slot and eventually putting it into the Oswego net to make it 2-1.
Oswego was up to play the cat-and-mouse game, with Justin Ryan scoring the Lakers' third goal of the period, restoring the Lakers' two-goal lead going into the first intermission.
The Golden Flyers responded in the first minute of the second period on a power play that spilled over from the first period. The goal cut the Laker lead to one.
Halfway through the second frame, the Lakers once again found the back of the net. This time, newcomer Austin Borggaard found the twine, using a nice forehand cut back to put it by the Naz goalie, making it 4-2 Lakers.
Nazareth just wouldn't go away in this exhibition thriller, capitalizing on an Oswego penalty for the second time in the game.
This one wouldn't see much action again until the final minute of the third period when Miller scored his second of the night, a snipe from the right side boards over the shoulder of the Nazareth goalie, making it 5-3 Lakers.
The Golden Flyers would add one more with just a handful of seconds on the clock, just a little too late as the time ran out on the final exhibition game, solidifying a 5-4 Lakers win.
What's Next
The Lakers will now get a six-day break before heading to No. 4 St. Norbert for the first two games of the regular season. Puck drop between the Lakers and Green Knights is set for 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 30.
