The Oswego State hockey team was beaten by Geneseo for the second time in as many meetings this season, losing 3-1 at Wilson Arena in Geneseo on Friday.
Rick Varone scored the lone Laker goal. It was a power-play goal with 24 seconds remaining in the first period assisted by Brendan McLaughlin and Ryan Koresky, and made the score 2-1. Geneseo added a short-handed goal by Mitch Stephens to re-establish a two-goal lead.
Geneseo goaltender Derek Jokic made 34 saves and Oswego State's Ryan Scott stopped 18 shots.
Varone's goal extended his point streak to three games, and he has four goals and two assists in that stretch.
The Lakers remain in first place in the SUNYAC with a 9-3-1 conference record. Geneseo trails by just one point in second place with a 9-4-0 league mark. Fredonia is two points behind Oswego State, in third place, with 17 points (7-3-3). Saturday's games will conclude the regular season. Oswego State faces Brockport in a 3 p.m. contest at Tuttle North Ice Arena.
