Lakers beat Buffalo State; advance to semifinals

The Oswego State women's basketball team defeated Buffalo State 71-59 in a SUNYAC Tournament quarterfinal game at Max Ziel Gymnasium on Tuesday night. The Lakers, now with a record of 19-6 on the season, will face Brockport on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Buffalo State fell to 9-17 on the year.

The Lakers used a balanced scoring attack and forced 24 Buffalo State turnovers to get the win. Oswego State led by as many as 20 points in the second half but the pesky Bengals fought back to reduce the lead to fewer than 10 points late in the game.

Kelly Mraz scored 14 points to lead Oswego State in scoring and she also had seven assists in the game. Seven of Mraz's points came from the free throw line. Lacey Kimpland (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) scored 11 points for the Lakers and Sarah Lombard had nine points and six rebounds.

Buffalo State was paced by Darnika Moseley with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Cat Ejimadu had 15 points, which came on five successful 3-point shots in eight attempts from behind the arc.
