Lakers win thriller

The Oswego State women's basketball team scored a thrilling 73-70 comeback overtime victory over Utica College on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Max Ziel Gymnasium.

The Lakers trailed throughout the second half but got back into the game with 3-pointers in the final minute by Lacey Kimpland and Kelly Mraz to reduce the deficit to two points. After missing a free throw with seven seconds left, Mraz stole the ball from a Utica player, dribbled to the top of the key, and hit an off-balance leaning jumper as the buzzer sounded. The basket forced overtime with the score tied 67-67.

Oswego State outscored the visiting Pioneers 6-3 in the extra session as Sarah Lombard and Mraz had three points each.

Kimpland paced the Oswego State scorers with 17 points. Mraz scored 12 and Jessica Tremblay had 11.

Corrina Rustmann scored 18 points for Utica to lead all scorers. Ava Thomas added 16 and Whitney Frament scored 14.

Both teams are now 15-5 on the season. The Lakers return to SUNYAC play on Friday when they host New Paltz at 6 p.m.
