Oswego State defeated Potsdam 6-5 in the first game, but lost the second game of a double-header 2-1 on Friday in Oswego.

In the first game of the afternoon, Laurie Volkmar drove in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Lakers a victory in their home opener. Volkmar's single to left field brought home senior captain Missy Constanza from third base.
Oswego State broke through for four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-2 lead. Back-to-back doubles by Sarah Castaldo and Constanza keyed the rally. Michelle Jackson, the starting pitcher for Oswego State, also contributed an RBI single for the Lakers.
Susie Burt earned the win in relief of Jackson.
Potsdam 2, Oswego State 1
The Bears earned a split behind the pitching of Amanda Maxwell in the second game. Maxwell allowed just one run on four Laker hits. She outdueled Oswego State's Heather McBride, who allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits.
Potsdam scored in the bottom of the first and bottom of the second innings and made those runs stand up for the rest of the game. Oswego State's only run came in the top of the fourth. Jessica Mills tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Constanza.
The Lakers left the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning. The game was declared finished after six innings due to darkness.
Oswego State is now 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC. Potsdam is 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The Lakers will host Plattsburgh for a double-header beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
