Oswego State's softball team dropped two games to Geneseo on Friday afternoon. The visiting Knights won the first game 10-2 and won the second game 5-2.
Kelly Cooper had two home runs on the afternoon for the Lakers.
Geneseo 10, Oswego State 2
Oswego State scored a single run in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Heather Merino and Cooper drove a ball over the fence in left-center field for Oswego State's second run, which came in the bottom of the sixth. Heather McBride took the loss on the mound for the Lakers.
A five-run second inning for Geneseo was highlighted by a two-run double from Lauren Zefting. Cat Pratico had three hits on the day including a three-run homer. Michelle Mason and Laura Skalaski had two hits each, including a solo homer by Skalaski in the top of the seventh. Audrey Kuhn was the winning pitcher.
Geneseo 5, Oswego State 2
Geneseo scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning that proved to be decisive in the second game.
Oswego State trailed by one in the top of the fifth and appeared to take the lead when Rachael Eckhard hit an apparent two-run homer to left field. Kaitlyn Kaiser scored on the play, but Eckhard was ruled out on appeal when she made contact with her teammates before reaching home plate. Cooper added a solo homer in the sixth to account for Oswego State's other run.
Lindsay Norton was the winning pitcher for the Knights and Susie Burt was the losing pitcher for the Lakers.
Oswego State is now 7-23 overall this season and fell to 4-14 in the SUNYAC. Geneseo is 19-15 overall and 13-7 in the conference.
The Lakers travel to Fredonia for a doubleheader on Saturday.
