Oswego State back in win column

The Oswego State men's soccer team found its scoring touch again and earned a 3-1 win over Alfred on Wednesday at the Laker Soccer Field in Oswego.

Three different Oswego State players scored, and all three goals were set up by Jim Mertz, who had three assists and now leads the Lakers with nine points on the season. The Lakers trailed in the first half as Bobby Linaberry scored for Alfred in the 23rd minute.

Oswego State responded with two goals in the next eight minutes to take a lead it would never relinquish. Mertz set up Pat Hurley for the tying goal in the 27th minute, and then assisted on Andrew Hale's goal in the 30th minute.

The Lakers' Diogo Moreira scored his first collegiate goal in the second half to wrap up the scoring.

Oswego State is now 3-2-0 on the year and continues its homestand Saturday at 3 p.m. against Hamilton. Alfred fell to 1-3-1 on the year.
