The Laker men's soccer team continued its torrid scoring rate and defeated Morrisville 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
Greg Blette's game-winning goal came just 1:38 into the extra time and was assisted by Mike Kincaid and Mike Davis. Blette, a freshman from Lakeview, scored to give Oswego State a second consecutive win and the Lakers are now 2-1 on the season.
The Lakers took the lead three times during the match but Morrisville tied the game after each Oswego State goal. Mike Kincaid opened the scoring for the Lakers just 10:47 into the match, as he chipped the goalie after the play was assisted by Mike Davis and Jim Mertz. The score remained in Oswego State's favor throughout the remainder of the first half, but five goals were scored over the final 45 minutes.
Sean Thomson scored for the host Mustangs 1:03 into the half but Mertz put the Lakers back in front 10 minutes later. After another Morrisville goal, Mike Roorda gave Oswego State its third lead of the night. They couldn't make it stand up as Morrisville tied the game with 3:26 left, but that set up Blette's extra time heroics.
The Laker goalies saw action in the match, as Sean Sessa and Frank Battaglia had one save each in the first half, and Nick Liberti made two saves and earned the win.
After scoring six times in a 6-4 win over St. John Fisher on Sunday, the Lakers are averaging five goals per contest over their last two outings. Oswego State's next match is a home contest, on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Nazareth.
