Two goals in the final 11 minutes of regulation and another in the first minute of overtime led Cortland to a 3-2 overtime victory against Oswego State in a SUNYAC men's soccer game on Wednesday afternoon in Oswego.
Bryan Patterson volleyed in a cross from Ayinde George just 21 seconds into overtime to score the game-winning goal. Cortland is now 10-5-0 and 6-4-0 in the SUNYAC. Oswego State is 6-10-1 and 3-7-0 in the conference, and dropped out of contention for a SUNYAC playoff spot.
Cortland rallied to tie the game late in the second half. George scored off a goalmouth scramble when his shot deflected into the net in the 80th minute. Sean Malone assisted on that goal. Patrick Meany scored the game-tying goal in the 87th minute when a long throw from Peter Degere was headed down by an Oswego State defender. Meany collected the loose ball and fired a low shot through traffic that found the back of the net.
Oswego State got off to a great start as German Collazo scored in the third minute of the game after a short pass from Felipe Cavalcanti. Collazo gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead in the 69th minute after beating the Red Dragon defeders on the right wing and shooting low inside of the left post.
The Lakers will play at New Paltz on Saturday at 1 p.m.
