Oswego State and Fredonia play to 3-3 tie

The Oswego State men's ice hockey team tied Fredonia 3-3 on Saturday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena in Oswego.

Fredonia jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first period on goals by Bryan Goudy and James Muscatello, but goals by Oswego State's C.J. Thompson and Ryan Ellis tied the game 2-2. The goal by Ellis came on a penalty shot, the first penalty shot awarded in the two-year history of the Campus Center Ice Arena, after a Fredonia forward covered the puck his defensive goal crease.

The goal by Ellis marked the 100th point in his Oswego State career, making him the 46th player all-time to record that milestone. Ellis, from Georgetown, Ontario, has 43 goals and 57 assists in 63 career games.

After a scoreless second period, Fredonia went ahead on a rebound goal by Richard Boyce following up a breakaway by Colin Sarfeh.

Oswego State tied the game on a power-play goal by Francois Gagnon with just 3:17 left in the third period. Gagnon fired a shot from the center point into the upper corner of the net through traffic to tie the score.

The overtime yielded no goals and no scoring opportunities.

Oswego State goalie Ryan Scott started the game, but was replaced by Chris Hyk after Scott allowed two goals on four shots in 7:10. Hyk finished the game with 18 saves. Fredonia goalie Kevin Amborski made 34 saves.

The Lakers are now 5-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the SUNY Athletic Conference, while Fredonia is 5-3-3 and 3-2-2 in the conference.
