Oswego State drops first two conference games

The Lakers opened up SUNYAC play with two losses to Cortland at the Laker Softball Diamond on Wednesday afternoon in Oswego. Cortland won the first game 7-1 and won the second game 8-0 in five innings. Cortland is now 13-7 overall and 2-0 in the SUNYAC, while the Lakers are 3-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Game One: Cortland 7, Oswego State 1

In the opener, Cortland scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning and added three more in the top of the seventh. Stefanie Cola led the offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a double and an RBI. Kate Yaun had three hits in three at-bats. Jamie Neuner and Jackie Begnoche each had two RBIs for the Red Dragons.

The lone Laker run came in the bottom of the seventh when Jessica Mills doubled home Sarah Castaldo. Ang D'Amboise was the winning pitcher and Michelle Jackson took the loss for Oswego State.

Game Two: Cortland 8, Oswego State 0

Katie Finch held Oswego State without a hit and Cortland's offense came to life late in the game in a Red Dragon victory in five innings.

Kate Yaun led Cortland with a three-run triple that keyed the offense. Annemarie Nelson and Amanda Barnett had two hits each.

Kaitlyn Thibodeau took the loss for Oswego State and Finch earned the win.
