The Oswego State softball team beat Geneseo 5-4 in eight innings in the first game of a doubleheader, before losing 10-1 in the second game. The Lakers are now 6-15 on the year and 3-9 in the SUNYAC.
Oswego State 5, Geneseo 4 (8 innings)
The Lakers scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to get the victory in the opening game. Kelly Cooper singled and Sarah Castaldo walked to start the rally. Mallory Eggert delivered an RBI single to score Cooper, and Heather Merino reached on an infield error that allowed Castaldo to score from third.
Geneseo managed one run in the bottom half of the inning, but with two outs and runners on first and third, Laker pitcher Michelle Jackson induced a comebacker that she fielded and threw to first to record the game's final out.
Merino hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to force extra innings. Jessica Mills and Cooper were 2-for-3 at the plate in the game.
Geneseo 10, Oswego State 1
The Lakers managed just three hits against Geneseo pitcher Lindsay Norton in the second game, which was shortened to six innings. Merino had two more hits in the contest, including an RBI double in the fifth inning to score pinch-runner Tricia Straight. Kaitlyn Thibodeau was the starting pitcher and took the loss.
