Four different players tallied goals as the Oswego State men's soccer team improved to 2-1 in SUNYAC play with a 4-0 victory ocer SUNY Potsdam on Friday, Oct. 3 at Laker Field. The contest was part of a two-game weekend against conference teams from the North Country and part of the men's soccer team's Alumni Weekend.
The Lakers (4-5 overall, 2-1 SUNYAC) scored a pair of goals in each half and outshot the visiting Bears, 19-2. Sophomore forward Felipe Cavalcanti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) set the tone for the game with an unassisted goal 5:06 into the contest, putting his only shot of the game past Potsdam goalie Evan Smith. Oswego added its second goal more than 20 minutes later as senior midfielder Mike Roorda (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) scored his first goal of the season, putting a pass from sophomore German Colazzo (Freeport) in the net at 32:16.
The team picked up the tempo in the second half, outshooting Potsdam 11-1. Junior midfielder Chris Carra (Endwell/Maine Endwell) tacked on his second goal of the season at 69:54 off of a pass from freshman Ben Nix (Painted Post/Corning West). Sophomore midfielder Ben Peters (Trenton, ONT) added an unassisted late goal with 9:08 remaining in the game.
Laker sophomore goalkeeper Matt Wopperer (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) earned his second win of the year in his third consecutive start of the season, making only one save.
Oswego faces Plattsburgh State, who played to a 1-1 draw at Cortland, in the second game of the back-to-back weekend at 3 p.m.
