The Oswego State men's ice hockey team killed off nine Cortland power plays and
Ryan Scott earned his third shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over the Red Dragons at Alumni Arena in Cortland on Saturday night.
After a scoreless first period, Joe Hall scored three minutes into the second on assists from Brad Dormiedy and Neil Musselwhite to give Oswego State the lead. Peter Magagna fired in a loose puck in traffic late in the second on assists from Ryan Ellis and Brendan McLaughlin to extend the Laker lead to 2-0 after two periods.
Early in the third, the Lakers killed off two minor penalties to maintain the two-goal advantage, and Cortland couldn't get any pucks past Ryan Scott. The Lakers found themselves on a two-man advantage late in the game and added an insurance goal as Tony DiNunzio scored his seventh of the season, assisted by Matt Whitehead and C.J. Thompson.
The Lakers concluded their regular season with a 17-5-2 overall record and 13-2-1 mark in SUNYAC play, finishing second in the conference. Oswego State will host a semifinal playoff game on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Campus Center Ice Arena.
