Lakers get sweep of Fredonia, back to .500 in SUNYAC

The Oswego State softball team defeated Fredonia twice on Sunday afternoon, winning the first game 6-0 and the second game 4-3. The games were played in Oswego after having been rained out twice in Fredonia earlier this month. As a result, Fredonia batted in the bottom half of the innings and was the home team for each contest.

Oswego State is now 12-13 overall and 8-8 in the SUNY Athletic Conference. Fredonia fell to 3-15 in the SUNYAC and 8-20 overall this season.

The Lakers scored six runs on just four hits and took advantage of six errors by the Blue Devils in the opening game. Michelle Jackson earned the pitching victory for Oswego State with a complete-game shutout, yielding four hits and one walk, with 10 strikeouts.

Oswego State 4, Fredonia 3
Sarah Castaldo had an RBI single in the top of the first to give Oswego State the lead, but Fredonia answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for the first time in the doubleheader. The Lakers tied it in the third on another RBI hit from Castaldo, that brought in Ashley Mead who singled to start the inning.

The Lakers went ahead in the top of the fifth as Castaldo drove in two runs with her third hit of the game. She finished 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Oswego State's Jackson was the winning pitcher.
