Lakers swept by Union

The Oswego State softball team lost 23-4 and 14-9 in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Union College in Schenectady.

Oswego State is now 17-18 on the season and will play in the SUNYAC Championship tournament this weekend at Plattsburgh. The Lakers will face the top-seeded Plattsburgh Cardinals on Thursday at 9 a.m. in the opening game of the tournament.

Union 23, Oswego State 4 BOX SCORE

The Dutchwomen scored six runs in the first and nine in the second to build an early 15-0 lead and never looked back in a game that was shortened to five innings by the run rule. Oswego State scored twice in the third inning and twice in the fifth.

Rachael Echkhard had a double and scored for Oswego State. Sarah Castaldo, Kelly Cooper, Keri Starr, and Erin Tracy all singled. Erika Ayers was the losing pitcher.

Union 14, Oswego State 9 BOX SCORE

Three two-run homers in the top of the third highlighted a six-run inning as Oswego State lost the second game of the doubleheader. Rachael Eckhard, Sarah Castaldo, and Jillian Burns all homered in the big rally. Oswego State led 9-5 in the sixth inning, but Union scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead, and closed out the win in the top of the seventh.

Burns was 4-for-4 at the plate and Eckhard doubled and homered. Erin Tracy and Melissa Ryan had two hits each for Oswego State. Ayers again took the loss for Oswego State.
