Lakers eliminated from SUNYAC Tournament with loss to New Paltz

The Oswego State softball team lost 2-1 to Plattsburgh on a dramatic last-inning homer on Thursday morning in the first game of the SUNYAC softball championship tournament. The Lakers were then eliminated from the tournament with an 8-0 loss in five innings against New Paltz in the first game of the consolation bracket.

Plattsburgh 2, Oswego State 1 BOX SCORE

Laker pitcher Michelle Jackson and Plattsburgh's Stephanie Zweig, a two-time SUNYAC Pitcher of the Year, dueled in the tournament's opening game.

Oswego State took the lead in the top of the sixth on a two-out bunt single by Melissa Ryan that brought in Erin Tracy, who doubled to start the rally.

In the bottom of the seventh, Plattsburgh's Kirby Davids drew a walk, and Amy Woo homered to left field to give the Cardinals a 2-1 win.

New Paltz 8, Oswego State 0 (5 inn.) BOX SCORE

New Paltz pitcher Michelle Reinke shut down the Oswego State offense, limiting the Lakers to just two hits over five innings, and allowing just four batters to reach base in the game, which was shortened due to the run rule.

Erin Tracy had a hit for Oswego State and Jillian Burns had the other for the Lakers. Michelle Jackson started the game for Oswego State and lasted three innings, and was charged with all eight New Paltz runs, and they were earned. New Paltz totaled nine hits in the game, including a home run by Dale Cornelius and a double by Elizabeth May.

The Lakers are now 17-20 on the season.
