Late second-half goal dooms Oswego in 1-0 loss at Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA – A goal from Matthew Vescio in the 76th minute broke a scoreless tie to give the Cazenovia College men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over the visiting Oswego State Lakers on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Vescio scored the goal on a header off of a cross from the left side that was supplied by senior Matt Judge. The shot was just the fifth of the game for the Wildcats, who improved to 4-5-2 with the win, while Oswego dropped to 3-5 with the loss.

The first half was relatively uneventful, with both teams combining for just seven shots.  The Lakers had a couple good looks at the goal, but could not cash in as the score remained tied, 0-0, after 45 minutes.

Oswego had a couple shots hit the post in the second half and four that were stopped by senior captain Erik Tice, who relieved starting goalie Ryan Snyder to start the second half.

The Lakers outshot the Wildcats 13-5 for the game and had seven corner kicks, compared to zero for Cazenovia.

Snyder had one save in the first half for Cazenovia and Tice stopped four shots in the second half. Oswego's Matt Wopperer (Manlius, NY / Fayetteville-Manlius) recorded one save and allowed one goal in 90 minutes in the keep for the Lakers.
