Lakers prevail on third try with 1-0 win over Nazareth

The Oswego State men's soccer team returned to the friendly confines of Laker field on an overcast and rainy Saturday afternoon and came away on the winning side in its third game of the 2008 season, defeating Nazareth College, 1-0.

Junior midfielder Chris Carra (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) produced the game's lone goal in the first half, scoring unassisted from 10 feet away on a scramble in front of the net at 31:48.

Nazareth's best scoring opportunity came 2:11 to play in the half, getting a direct kick in front of the net after a handball. The shot bounced off the Laker defensive wall wide right.

Sophomore Marcus LaRobardiere (Camden/Camden) earned his first career start in goal and picked up the shutout victory, making a pair of saves.

"I thought the guys put together a good 90 minutes." replied Oswego coach Bob Friske. "It's a building block for success down the road. There are still some things that we need to work on, but I'm pleased with their work and their effort."
