Lakers break five-game slide with 69-59 win over Plattsburgh behind Ryan's 26 points

Freshman forward Kayla Ryan (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) scored in double figures for the ninth time in 12 games this season, scoring a game-high 26 points while pulling down seven rebounds, as Oswego State snapped a five-game losing streak with a 69-59 win over Plattsburgh State in SUNYAC action on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Max Ziel Gymnasium.

Ryan shot 75 percent from the floor, hitting nine of 15 field goals, and connected on eight of 10 free throws in 32 minutes of action.  She was one of three players in double digits for the Lakers (5-7, 3-1 SUNYAC).  Sophomore Colleen McCready (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) tallied 16 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field and six for eight shooting from the line, and also grabbed five rebounds, while senior co-captain Heather Merino (Queensbury/Lake George) added 12 points.  Senior co-captain Rachel Kohrs (New Lebanon) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and dished out six assists to go with five points before fouling out late in the second half.

Ryan scored 10 points in the opening half as both teams were tied at 24-24 going into the locker room. The second half saw eight lead changes and 11 ties before the Lakers broke the game open with an 11-3 run to take a 65-57 lead with 1:07 to play.  Kohrs kicked off the run with a three pointer, while Ryan and Merino each hit jumpers and sophomore Traci Bacon (Massena) and Tricia Sullivan each made a pair of free throws.
