The Oswego State men's soccer team picked up a valuable point in the SUNYAC playoff race with a 0-0 tie versus Geneseo on Saturday in Oswego. The Blue Knights won the shootout 3-1, which will help serve as a tiebreaker when seeds are determined for the playoffs at the end of the regular season. The Lakers moved to 4-8-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the league, while Geneseo went to 7-4-2 overall on the season and 4-2-1 in the conference.
The tone of the game was established early as a Blue Knight player was assessed a yellow card 30 seconds into the contest. Physical play was the headline of the scoreless contest as each team earned red cards and both squads combined to commit 37 fouls.
After playing to a scoreless tie in regulation, neither team was able to generate a quality scoring opportunity forcing a shootout. In the shootout, Oswego State missed three of its first four shots, while Geneseo made its first three as the Blue Knights walked away with the 3-1 shootout win.
The Lakers will continue to play towards a playoff spot on Friday when they host New Paltz at 3 p.m.
