Lakers drop SUNYAC doubleheader at Brockport

The Oswego State softball team saw their four-game win streak come to an end in dropping both games of a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader at the College at Brockport on Friday, April 17. The Lakers (7-15, 2-10 SUNYAC) lost the opening game, 2-1, after Brockport scored both runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and dropped the nightcap, 9-0 in five innings after the Golden Eagles (23-6-1, 12-2 SUNYAC) scored five runs in the final two innings.

In game one, Oswego scored its lone run in the top of the fourth inning when shortstop Shannon Baker got on base with a single with two out. Designated player Elyse Youngman followed with a double to right centerfield to drive in Baker.  Brockport scored both of its runs (both unearned) during a three-run sixth inning, where the Lakers committed a pair of errors. Starting pitcher Michelle Jackson struck out three batters and walked only one in picking up the complete-game loss.

Game two saw Brockport jump out to a 4-0 lead through two innings before adding a run in the fourth inning and closing out the game on the eight-run mercy rule with four runs on three hits and two Laker errors in the fifth. Oswego was held to three hits, with Baker batting 2-for-2. For the day, Baker finished 4-for-5 at the plate and was the lone player producing multiple hits in either game.

Oswego returns to Laker softball field on Saturday, April 18 for a doubleheader with New Paltz beginning at 1 p.m.
