The Oswego State men's soccer team was dealt its second loss of the season by nationally-ranked Rochester in a 2-0 decision on Saturday night at the Flower City Tournament in Rochester.
The Lakers struggled to generate any offensive momentum in the first half as the Yellowjackets owned a 14-0 advantage in shots for the period. Oswego State's defense stood tall until Rochester broke the scoreless tie at 35:22 when Phil Proud scored on a penalty kick to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead at the half.
The Laker offense came alive in the second half as it managed five shots. However, J.J. Dennstedt used his left foot to put the ball in the top corner of the net 7:28 into the period to give Rochester the two-goal lead. Oswego State goalkeeper Matt Wopperer (Jr., Manilus, N.Y.) made six saves, while both Yellowjacket goalkeepers combined to make one stop.
The Lakers, who fell to 0-2 overall, will face St. John Fisher on Monday at noon as part of the Flower City Tournament.
