Strong second half shooting from the Oneonta Red Dragons doomed the Oswego State men's basketball team in a 75-68 loss on Tuesday night in Oswego. Oneonta went 12-for-21 (57.1 percent) from the floor in the second half and made nine more free throws than Oswego attempted to record the victory. The Lakers used rebounding to stay in the game, as they owned a 16-rebound advantage and dominated the offensive glass with 21 boards. Oneonta improved to 10-2 overall and 3-2 in league play, and Oswego State fell to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the SUNYAC.

The Lakers held a 16-10 lead with 8:47 on the clock in the first half before the Red Dragons put together a 13-2 run punctuated by a three-point basket from Michael Grimes to put Oneonta ahead 23-18.  Oswego State narrowed the gap to two points just before intermission when Hayden Ward (Fr., Montauk, N.Y.) converted a layup after receiving a pass from Sean Michele (So., East Rochester, N.Y.).  In the first half, each squad hit 10 field goals, but the Red Dragons shot 47.6 percent compared to 32.3 percent for the Lakers.

Oneonta opened the second half on fire as it made its first five shots to see the lead grow to 39-25 with 16:37 left to play.  Oswego State responded immediately with a 8-0 streak to cut the deficit to six points, but a Brian Hooks three and a layup by Cameron Boyden pushed the back to double figures at 44-33.  The Lakers refused to go away, though, as a pair of three-pointers from Ryan Sheridan (So., Blauvelt, N.Y.) made the score 63-58 with 1:04 remaining in the game.  Oswego State began to hit its three-point buckets, but Oneonta went a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe in the final minute to preserve the 75-68 victory.

The Lakers' Chad Burridge (So., Hannibal, N.Y.) posted his fourth double-double of the season, leading all scorers with 24 points and grabbing a game-high 14 boards.  Sheridan, who shot 4-of-7 from three-point range, joined Burridge in double-digits with 19 points.  Four Red Dragons finished the game in double figures led by 19 points from Michael Grimes.  Teammates Brian Hooks, Brian Beckford, and Troy Talbot contributed 18, 15, and 11 points, respectively.  Oswego State owned the rebounding edge 44-28, but that was due to the Lakers shooting 26-of-70 (37.1 percent) for the game and Oneonta going 22-of-42 (52.4 percent).  The Red Dragons also went 25-of-33 from the free throw line compared to 9-of-14 for Oswego State.

The Lakers will face Potsdam on Friday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. in Potsdam before facing Plattsburgh on Saturday at 4 p.m.
