Men's Soccer Eliminated From Post-Season Race With 1-0 Loss at New Paltz

Box Score

Jimmy Altadonna scored 1:11 into the contest and that would be enough as New Paltz was able to hold off the Oswego State men's soccer team by the score of 1-0 on Friday in New Paltz.  The Laker loss eliminated Oswego State from the playoff race as it dropped to 5-9-1 overall and 3-5-0 in the SUNYAC standings.  The Hawks improved to 8-8-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the league with one game remaining in the conference schedule.

New Paltz's Harrison Lane played the ball to Altadonna, who took a shot at net that was stopped, but not collected by Laker goalkeeper Matt Wopperer. Altadonna gathered his own rebound and gave the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.

The Hawks controlled the game early, not allowing a Laker shot until the 25th minute, while firing 11 of their own. Oswego State would retaliate with eight shots in the last 20 minutes of the half, to only one for New Paltz. A Mike Naab shot from inside the box in the 42nd minute was kept out of the net by a defender, keeping New Paltz ahead at the half.

The Lakers outshot their opponents 12-8 in the second half, but could not knot up the score. Each team had also four corner kick opportunities in the second half. Wopperer finished the game with five saves in the loss. Hawks goalie Conor Power ended the contest with seven saves.

The Lakers travel to Oneonta on Saturday to face off against the Red Dragons at 1 p.m.
