The Oswego State women's basketball team kept pace in the SUNYAC standings by posting a 65-61 win over visiting Plattsburgh on WBCA "Pink Zone" night at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Lakers saw a second-half double-digit lead dwindle down to three points with 1:25 remaining in the game before a layup by
Kayla Ryan made it a two-possession game with less than a minute to play.
Traci Bacon led the Oswego State offensive attack with 18 points followed by Ryan's 16. Plattsburgh's Taylor Amarando led all scorers with 23 points.
Oswego State moved into fourth place in the SUNYAC standings at 8-6 and improved to 11-10 overall, while the Cardinals fell to 2-18 on the season and 0-14 in league play.
An old-fashion three-point play by Kayla Ryan jump started a 13-2 Laker run that gave Oswego State a 31-23 lead with 3:02 remaining in the first half. Coach Bruno's squad went into halftime with a 33-27 advantage courtesy of an Erin Ostrander jump shot to close out the frame.
The Lakers saw their lead balloon to double-digits when Bacon hit a jumper to make the score 59-49 with 8:03 to play. However, Plattsburgh began to chip away at the deficit, pulling to within three points after a free throw by Amarando with 1:25 remaining on the clock. Following an Oswego State timeout, Bacon drove down the left side of the lane before dishing to Ryan for a crucial lay-up to make it a two-possession game with under a minute to play. Rachel Kohrs sealed the win by hitting a free-throw in the waning seconds.
The Lakers will host Potsdam at 2 p.m. on Saturday in another pivotal conference match-up.
