In his final home game for the Oswego State men's basketball team,
Stanley Francois scored 10 of the squad's first 20 points, as the Lakers led from start to finish in a 73-59 victory over Potsdam on Saturday afternoon. Francois finished the contest with 16 points and seven rebounds to lead a balanced offense that featured four double-digit scorers. With the win, Oswego State kept its playoff hopes alive as it improved to 5-10 in SUNYAC play and 11-11 overall. The Bears fell to 3-19 overall and 2-13 in the league.
Oswego State opened the game with a 16-5 lead over the first eight minutes before closing out the first half with a 38-28 advantage. The Bears struggled to make headway in the second half, never getting closer than eight with 15:06 to play. As the half wore on, the Lakers methodically built their lead and sported an 18-point cushion with three minutes left in regulation.
Chad Burridge turned in an all-around performance for the Lakers totaling 14 points, eight rebounds, and a team-high five blocked shots. Sophomore guard Conor Monaghan also contributed 14 points for Oswego State. The Lakers received good production from their bench, outscoring Potsdam 25-15, as Ryan Sheridan and Jose Uribe tallied 12 and nine points, respectively. Curtis Pierce paced Potsdam with 20 points, followed by teammates Anthony Williams at 13 points and Edward Cross at 10.
Prior to tip-off, Oswego State honored Francois, as well as fellow senior Luke Schrader with a brief pre-game ceremony. The Lakers will continue to keep their playoff chances alive on Tuesday when they travel to New Paltz for an 8 p.m. start time.
