Women's Basketball Loses To Cortland 90-45

Cortland shot a scorching 54.4 percent from the field on 31-of-57 shooting as the Red Dragons defeated the Oswego State women's basketball team 90-45 on Friday night. Jessica Laing and Micki Volpini scored 29 and 25 points, respectively, for Cortland, while Rachel Kohrs paced the Lakers with nine points. Oswego State dropped to 10-10 on the season and 7-6 in conference play. The Red Dragons improved to 17-3 overall and 12-1 in the SUNYAC.

Cortland owned a slim 16-14 lead with 8:54 remaining in the first half before building a 36-21 advantage at halftime, as the Red Dragon defense held the Laker offense scoreless for nearly six minutes.  Kristen Diglio drilled a three-pointer on Oswego State's final possession of the frame to pull the Lakers to within 15 points.

Cortland utilized a 12-0 stretch midway through the second half to see its lead grow to 63-32 with 9:32 left to play before cruising to the 90-45 victory.  The Red Dragons controlled the paint during the contest as they outscored the Lakers 40-12 in the paint.  Cortland also turned 23 Oswego State turnovers into 29 points. 

The Lakers return home to Max Ziel Gymnasium on Friday, February 12 when they face Plattsburgh for Pink Zone Night at 6 p.m.
