The Oswego State softball team opened its home portion of the schedule with a pair of losses to Geneseo by the scores of 11-0 and 7-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers struggled at the dish compiling seven hits in both contests. Oswego State, which fell to 1-15 overall and 0-6 in the SUNYAC, will host Brockport on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch at 1 p.m. The Blue Knights improved to 11-11 overall and 3-5 in league play.
After a scoreless first inning in game one, Geneseo erupted for nine runs on eight hits in the top of the second capped off by a two-run homer by Jessica Steubing. The Blue Devils added another run in the third to take a 10-0 lead before scoring the final run of the contest in the fifth when Steubing doubled in Lexi Williams from second base.
Marie Steding (Fr., Central Square, N.Y.) earned the loss after allowing seven earned runs on ten hits in three innings. Halie Bloom (Fr., Commack, N.Y.) threw two innings in relief recording four strikeouts and giving up one run on three hits. Janine Montera kept the Laker offense at bay holding Oswego State to two hits on the day, while striking out five. #Siobhan Joyce# and Eileen Joyce (Levittown, N.Y.) recorded both Laker hits.
Geneseo got on the scoreboard first in game two as well after Mary Bostwick helped her cause on the mound by leading off the third inning with a double. Bostwick later came around to score on a past ball to put the Blue Knights ahead 1-0. Oswego State evened the score in the bottom of the fourth inning when Shannon Baker's (So., Hannibal, N.Y.) lead-off single turned into a run when
Sue Schoff (Fr., Little Falls, N.Y.) delivered a hit up the middle. Geneseo regained the lead for good in its next at-bat after a two-run home run by Karen Wagner to make the score 3-1.
The Lakers responded with a long ball of their own in the next frame when
Nicole Ouellette (Fr., Castleton, N.Y.) led off the fifth with a hit that bounced off the top of the fence in left centerfield and out of play. However, the Blue Knights tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the 7-2 victory.

Sarah Thayer (Fr., Winthrop, N.Y.) worked 6.2 innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits and striking out two. Bloom recorded one out in the top of the seventh before Thayer re-entered the game after giving up three runs on four hits. Bostwick gave up two runs on four hits for the complete-game win.
