Game 2 Box Score
The Oswego State softball team will continue to look for that elusive first SUNY Athletic Conference win after being swept by Fredonia by the scores of 6-2 and 12-4 on Sunday afternoon in Fredonia. Offensive struggles continued as the Lakers managed just three hits in game one and two hits in the nightcap. Oswego State fell to 3-23 overall and 0-12 in league play, while the Blue Devils moved to 14-11 overall and 5-5 in the conference.
The Lakers struck first in top half of the second inning as two walks, a base hit from Erin Tracy (Sr., Pulaski, N.Y.), and a wild pitch resulted in a run. However, Fredonia answered with four runs in its half of the frame to take a 4-1 lead. The Blue Devils added runs in each of the next two innings to go ahead 6-1. Oswego State posted its final run of the game in the sixth after two Fredonia errors.
Christine Linguanti (Jr., Monroe, N.Y.), Stephanie Sarcona (Fr., East Meadow, N.Y.), and Tracy posted the Laker hits, while Sarah Thayer (Fr., Winthrop, N.Y.) suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs in three innings.
Oswego State capitalized on four Blue Devil errors after singles by Sue Schoff (Fr., Little Falls, N.Y.) and Shannon Baker (So., Hannibal, N.Y.) to take a 4-0 lead at the start of the second game. Fredonia responded with three hits, two of which were extra-base knocks, to cut the deficit to one run at 4-3. The Blue Devils went on to tally runs in each of the remaining innings, including four in the fifth for the walk-off win. Marie Steding (Fr., Central Square, N.Y.) picked up the loss for the Lakers after two innings pitched with five runs allowed on six hits.
Oswego State returns to action Saturday, April 24 when the Lakers host Cortland with the first pitch at 1 p.m.
